This workshop will introduce Asian Every Newborn Action Plan priority countries to the Essential Care for Every Baby and Essential Care for Small Babies newborn health training curricula as well as facilitate discussion on overall health system bottlenecks and pragmatic solutions in strengthening newborn training to contribute to the reduction of newborn mortality in the region.
The Essential Care for Every Baby and Essential Care for Small Babies curricula are a part of a series of newborn care training modules called Helping Babies Survive developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics in collaboration with other selected partners under the auspices of the Survive and Thrive Global Development Alliance. These modules, which include the well-tested and scaled-up curriculum on neonatal resuscitation, Helping Babies Breathe, are designed to assist health care providers in low-resource settings to deliver consistent and quality newborn care in order to achieve reductions in newborn mortality.

Global Health Media Project (GHMP), who produces teaching videos for health workers in low-resource areas, has completed a series of videos on newborn care that complement the Essential Care for Every Baby curriculum, and can be watched here. The films were created in developing world clinical settings, highlight a holistic approach to care, and are available in five languages. GHMP is currently developing a series to complement the Essential Care for Small Babies curriculum, collaborating with the team that produced this program, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and other members of the Survive and Thrive Global Development. GHMP is pleased to include these videos as part of the educational materials offered by the Survive and Thrive Alliance.
